Ange Postecoglou Reflects on Tottenham’s Dramatic Win Over Liverpool

In the aftermath of Tottenham Hotspur’s thrilling 2-1 victory over Liverpool, manager Ange Postecoglou addressed the media, shedding light on the game’s pivotal moments and the team’s performance.

“I wasn’t running late on my right,” began Postecoglou, hinting at the dramatic finish to the game. He expressed his satisfaction with the result, especially given the challenges faced in the initial weeks of the season. “We’ve had some significant challenges in the first sort of seven weeks of the season, and the way we’ve dealt with them, I’ve been really pleased,” he remarked.

When asked about the late goal, Postecoglou emphasized the team’s belief and spirit. “Sometimes when you score that late, it just helps continue to build that belief within the group,” he said.

The conversation then shifted to the controversial VAR decisions. Postecoglou candidly shared his views, stating, “I’ve never really been a fan of it since it’s come in.” He elaborated on the inherent imperfections of the system, noting that no technology can make the game error-free. “So much of our game isn’t factual; it’s down to interpretation,” he added.

On the topic of the red cards, Postecoglou chose to remain neutral, saying it’s hard for him to comment on decisions against opposition teams. However, he did acknowledge the impact of Tottenham’s pressure, especially in the second half, which he believed led to some of the decisions.

Discussing the team’s approach to scoring, Postecoglou highlighted the need for multiple avenues to find the back of the net, especially after the departure of Harry Kane. He praised the team’s start and their ability to control the game in the second half.

Finally, touching upon individual performances, Postecoglou lauded his captain’s effort. Even though he wasn’t fully fit, he led from the front, instigating defensive pressure and even finding the net. “He was the one that was doing the pressing and got his goal as well. A great captain’s effort,” concluded Postecoglou.
