Tottenham Hotspur’s head coach, Ange Postecoglou, recently addressed the media, providing insights into the team’s preparations, player conditions, and his thoughts on the upcoming Premier League match against Sheffield United.
Team News Update When asked about the latest team news, Postecoglou confirmed, “Everyone’s back – they came back yesterday and we had an afternoon session, more of a recovery session for everyone. Today it was a full session and everyone was good, no issues. They all got through training and obviously we’ll see how they recover but at this moment in time they’ve come through unscathed.”
Reflecting on Recent Achievements On being nominated for the FIFA Best Manager and winning the Premier League manager of the month, Postecoglou humbly stated, “I take great pleasure from it but I also understand that in all of those things I’m just the frontman.” He emphasized the collective effort of the staff and players in achieving these accolades.
Supporting Players Regarding Richarlison’s recent emotional state after a game, Postecoglou mentioned, “Look I think with all the players they all get whatever help and assistance they require here. It doesn’t always happen in the public eye because most of it is done in-house. But we provide all the support and whatever the players need.” He stressed the importance of understanding that every player has challenges in their personal lives and it’s essential to provide them with the necessary support.
Clarifying Squad Registration On the topic of Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier’s squad registration, Postecoglou clarified, “As I said leading into it it was a fairly fluid situation. We weren’t really sure what was going to happen with Hugo. Eric was never out of the squad. He was here and I obviously had decisions to make around the 25-man squad.” He confirmed that both players are now available for selection.
James Maddison’s Leadership Acknowledging James Maddison’s recent Player of the Month award, Postecoglou praised not just his quality on the field but also his leadership, stating, “Spot on, that’s what’s been really pleasing. I think for us it was a fairly low risk acquisition because he’s just a quality player. We knew that but the way he’s embraced the whole football club, his contribution on and off the field, he’s part of the leadership group, the way he’s embraced the whole group and the whole club has been fantastic for us.”
Anticipating the Sheffield United Match When asked about the upcoming match against Sheffield United, Postecoglou mentioned that while there might be similarities with the Burnley game, Sheffield United presents a different challenge. “Having watched their games, Paul’s got them really well set-up, really well organized. They’re fighting for everything and you know that’s what they’re going to do tomorrow.”
Supporting Yves Bissouma On the topic of Yves Bissouma’s transformation this year, Postecoglou said, “I think I said during the week that I haven’t done much. He’s him. I keep saying that players have their destiny in their own hands.” He emphasized Bissouma’s hard work and dedication.
Transfer Window Reflection Postecoglou expressed satisfaction with the club’s transfer activities, stating, “Yeah, I am, because first thing you look at the guys we’ve brought in, have they made a contribution and I think it’s fair to say that, apart from Brennan [Johnson] who we brought in fairly late, and young Alejo [Veliz], who had his first training session with us yesterday, the rest have been really significant contributors for us.”
Final Thoughts Postecoglou concluded by emphasizing the importance of the team’s style of play and the collective effort of the entire squad. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that Tottenham plays attractive, effective football and achieves the desired results.
