Tottenham Hotspur 5-2 Burnley: Player Ratings

Goalkeeper

Vicario: 7/10

Vicario had a relatively quiet day but dealt with everything that came his way. He made a world-class save off a deflection in the second half. He couldn’t have done much about the goals he conceded, but his distribution was excellent.

Defenders

Destiny Udogie: 9/10

Destiny Udogie continues to impress. Defensively sound and contributing to attacks, he was a menace down the side of the pitch. He won 8 out of 9 ground duels and made 5 tackles and 2 interceptions. A complete, faultless display from the young defender.

Mickey Van Der Ven: 8/10

Van Der Ven was a man mountain, winning aerial and ground duels consistently. He’s forming a strong partnership with Romero and Udogie. The only downside was his involvement in the goals conceded, but overall, a strong showing.

Cuti Romero: 9/10

Romero was exceptional, showing controlled aggression and leadership. He won all his aerial duels and made key tackles and blocks. He even scored a stunning goal from outside the box. A dominant display from the vice-captain.

Pedro Porro: 8/10

Porro grew into the game after a shaky start. His passing was pivotal, creating two key chances that led to goals. His quality on the ball helped Spurs break Burnley’s press and take control of the game.

Midfielders

Bissouma: 8/10

Bissouma had a few sloppy moments in the first half but was central to Spurs’ play in the second. His dribbling was exceptional, and he was a hard player to read for the opposition.

Papa Matar Sarr: 7/10

Papa had a good display, although it was probably his weakest of the season. He was stifled by an early yellow card but still managed to be a Duracell bunny on the field. His attitude is infectious, always looking to make something happen. He was buzzing around like a bee, winning three ground duels out of seven.

Attacking Midfielders

James Maddison: 9/10

Maddison was the hub of the team, putting in a sensational display. He was defensively on point and going forward, he was always there, floating between the lines. He scored an unbelievable goal and was involved in almost everything good that Spurs did. His dribbling ability, especially inside the box, was top-notch.

Forwards

Dejan Kulusevski: 7/10

Kulusevski had a good game but was not on the same level as Son and Manor. He got into good positions and beat his man but sometimes lacked in decision-making. However, his off-the-ball work was impressive, winning the ball back high up the pitch.

Manor Solomon: 9/10

Solomon was unplayable at times, especially in the first half. He was nimble on his feet and hard to get the ball off. He provided two assists, one with a nice one-two with Son and the other by playing the ball calmly into Son’s path. For his first start in the Premier League, he was exceptional.

Heung-Min Son: 10/10

Son had an exceptional game, scoring a hat-trick with just 27 touches on the ball. Each of his goals oozed quality and class. He also contributed to the team’s overall play with his touches and layoffs. Son’s two-footed ability was on full display, and he led the team admirably as the captain.

Manager

Ange Postecoglou: 9/10

Ange made all the right calls, from starting Manor Solomon to moving Son to the center. He managed the game well, making five changes to ensure the team stayed fresh. The team played fantastic football, and it’s clear that the confidence and enjoyment are seeping through to the players, all thanks to Ange’s management.

Conclusion

The 5-2 win against Burnley was a team effort, but individual brilliance shone through. From Son’s hat-trick to Madison’s playmaking and Romero’s defensive solidity, every player contributed to this emphatic win. The manager, Ange Postecoglou, also deserves credit for his tactical acumen and game management.

Is this a new manager bounce or a sign of things to come? Only time will tell, but for now, Spurs fans have every reason to be optimistic.
